In this class, we will go through copying of illustrative works with laying out your drawing, using watercolor and pen and ink to tell the story you are painting. We will go through laying in the drawing, line quality and hatching techniques in ink, and laying in paint and more.

Class is sequential, building upon the previous.

Drawing:

Canson or Strathmore drawing paper 16”x20”

masonite board larger than paper

blue painters tape (or similar)

kneaded eraser

rubber eraser

sanding board or block (can also use sandpaper taped/stapled to wood piece)

Graphite -

boxcutter or x-acto knife

graphite pencils (2H, H, F, HB, B, 2B) at least a few of each

Charcoal -

Nitram or Winsor & Newton Charcoal in soft, medium, hard

chamois cloth & viva paper towel

Painting -

canvas or canvas board

palette (plastic or wood)

oil paints (ivory black, titanium white, raw umber)

brush washer

turpentine or mineral spirits

brushes (variety sizing 12-10 to 2-0 of your choice - borad, flat, bright, egbert, filbert, round)

rags (old shirt, viva paper towel, etc.)

palette knife for mixing
